Scotch Malt Whisky, often simply referred to as “Malt Whisky,” is a type of Scotch whisky made exclusively from malted barley and distilled in pot stills. This means it is distilled solely from malted barley and aged in oak casks, resulting in a complex flavor profile with notes of grain, fruit, spice, and smoke, depending on the region of production and duration of aging.
There are various types of Malt Whisky, which can vary based on production process and geographical origin:
1. Single Malt Scotch Whisky: A Malt Whisky produced exclusively from barley and distilled at a single distillery.
2. Blended Malt Scotch Whisky: A Malt Whisky made from a blend of Single Malt Whiskies sourced from different distilleries.
3. Single Cask Malt Whisky: A Malt Whisky that comes from a single cask and has not been mixed with whisky from other casks.
