American Whiskey – What is it?

“American Whiskey” refers to a variety of whiskey types produced in the United States. There are several types of American whiskey, including:

1. Bourbon: Bourbon is a type of American whiskey made from at least 51% corn and aged in new, charred oak barrels. It has a sweet and spicy flavor with notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak.

2. Tennessee Whiskey: Similar to bourbon, but Tennessee whiskey is filtered through charcoal, a process known as “charcoal mellowing.” This gives it a smoother and slightly smoky taste.

3. Rye Whiskey: Rye whiskey is made from at least 51% rye and has a spicy flavor with notes of grain, spices, and sometimes fruity nuances.

4. Corn Whiskey: Corn whiskey is made from at least 80% corn and has a sweet and mild flavor. It is often aged for less time than bourbon or rye whiskey and may have a higher alcohol content.

American whiskey is often enjoyed neat or on the rocks and is also a popular ingredient in many cocktails. Well-known brands of American whiskey include Jack Daniel’s, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, and Bulleit.
