Grappa – What is it?

Grappa is an Italian spirit made from the grape pomace left over from winemaking. After the grapes are pressed for wine, the solid residue—called pomace—remains. This pomace is then distilled to produce grappa. Grappa comes in various quality levels and flavor profiles, depending on the grapes used and the distillation process. It often has an intense flavor and can exhibit a wide range of aromas, from fruity and floral to spicy and bold. Grappa is traditionally enjoyed as a digestif and can also be used as an ingredient in cocktails.
