Soft Sangria – alcohol-free – the recipe Rezept

Basisspirituose
Alkoholfreie Cocktails (Mocktails)

Soft Sangría is the perfect mocktail for anyone who wants to enjoy the Spanish classic without alcohol. Red grape juice and orange juice form the base, while cranberry juice adds a slightly tart note. Citrus freshness and a touch of sweetness round off the drink. Ideal for warm days or social evenings – simple but with depth.

And this is what you need for the Soft Sangría – alcohol-free

1.5 litres red grape juice (chilled)

300 ml orange juice (freshly squeezed or high-quality)

6 cl cranberry juice (unsweetened)

4 cl lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

4 cl lime juice (freshly squeezed)

8 cl sugar syrup (1:1 sugar to water)

Ice cubes (to taste)

Lemon slices (thinly cut)

Orange slices (thinly cut)

Lime slices (thinly cut)

Here’s what matters

The trick is in the timing: Add the citrus fruits just before serving so they don’t become too bitter. If you prefer an especially aromatic taste, you can hang the peels of the citrus fruits (without the white pith!) in the decanter for 10 minutes and then remove them – this gives a fine but intense note. And: Always use unsweetened cranberry juice, otherwise the drink will become too sweet.

Variations

  • Berry Soft Sangría – Replace the cranberry juice with 200 ml mixed berry juice (raspberry, blackberry, blueberry) and add a handful of fresh berries. Stir in a few mint leaves for a fresh note.
  • Tropical Soft Sangría – Add 200 ml pineapple juice and 100 ml passionfruit juice. Garnish with pineapple slices and fresh mint.
  • Spiced Soft Sangría – Add a cinnamon stick and 3 cloves to the decanter for 10 minutes before adding the citrus fruits. Remove the spices before serving.

Frequently asked questions

Can I prepare the Soft Sangría in advance?

Yes, but without ice and citrus fruits. You can store the juices and sugar syrup in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Only add the ice and citrus fruits shortly before serving to keep the flavours fresh.

Which grape juice is best suited?

A high-quality, dark grape juice (e.g. from Concord grapes) gives the Sangría more depth. Avoid overly sweet juices – they overpower the other flavours.

Can I omit the sugar syrup?

Yes, but then the drink will taste more tart. Alternatively, you can use a little agave syrup or honey to adjust the sweetness.

How long does the Soft Sangría keep in the fridge?

Without ice and citrus fruits, it keeps for 1–2 days. With ice and citrus fruits, it should be consumed within 4–6 hours, as the juices may otherwise become too bitter.
