Stirring – What does that mean?

The tip about stirring refers to a technique when preparing cocktails, where the ingredients are gently mixed in the cocktail glass or mixing glass. This method is often used for cocktails that require clear and lighter textures, such as Martinis or Manhattans.

To stir a cocktail, the ingredients are usually placed directly into the cocktail glass or mixing glass, along with ice cubes. Then a stirring rod or bar spoon is used to gently mix the ingredients by moving the spoon in a clockwise motion. It is important to stir gently to avoid breaking the ice too much and diluting the cocktail too much.

Stirring helps to mix the ingredients without creating too much foam or air bubbles, resulting in a smooth and silky drink. After stirring, the cocktail is typically strained through a bar sieve into a serving glass and garnished according to the recipe.
