Orange Bitter – What is it?

Orange Bitter, also known as orange bitter liqueur or orange bitter essence, is a spirit that has the bitter taste of orange peel or orange oil. It is often produced by macerating or distilling orange peel in alcohol and may also contain other herbs, spices and flavours to achieve a complex flavour mix.

Orange Bitter is used in the cocktail world as an ingredient in various drinks. A few drops of Orange Bitter can add a subtle bitter and citrus note to a cocktail. A well-known example is the “Old Fashioned”, a classic cocktail that is often prepared with a few splashes of Orange Bitter. It is a versatile element in the bar world and can also be used in cooking as a flavouring.
