Coffee catering & facts about coffee consumption in Germany: Brazil is the world’s largest coffee producer. Currently, 45 million bags of raw coffee are sufficient for this. In 2013, this amounted to 2.96 million tonnes. Followed by Vietnam with just under half of that—exactly 1.46 million tonnes of coffee. That wasn’t too difficult, but do you know which countries follow on the world ranking of coffee-producing countries? Indonesia, Colombia, and, believe it or not: India. What does this have to do with your business? We’ll reveal something you can use for your company.
Coffee catering tips on coffee consumption in Germany
The Germans are genuine coffee drinkers. Or at least, many believe so. And this assumption is correct, as a glance at the statistical average shows. Four cups are consumed per person per day in this country. Or, to put it another way: 6.4 kilograms of coffee are drunk per person per year in Germany. Does that sound like a world leader? Well, if we compare ourselves with many Asian countries, it might feel like a coffee culture is only just emerging there. But even a glance at our neighbours in Switzerland shows that it can be done very differently. The Swiss enjoy 7.9 kilograms of coffee per person per year. Perhaps we should move our coffee catering from Berlin to Zurich.
Who actually drinks the most coffee?
If you think the Swiss drink the most coffee, you haven’t read the statistics to the end. Because our neighbours to the north merely smile wearily at the Swiss consumption. Or, rather, they smile brightly, because that much caffeine must have consequences. Every Swede buys and drinks around 9 kilograms of the brown beans per year. Norway and Denmark impress with 10 kilograms per person per year. But the Finns are at the top. Their value is twice as high as German coffee consumption: an impressive twelve kilograms! Interestingly, in the countries where coffee is produced, relatively little is drunk. There are two possible explanations for this. The first is that coffee consumption increases with rising prosperity. The second is that it increases with decreasing sunlight and is thus linked to the body’s own vitamin D production. This, among other things, influences fatigue.
