Rum Punch with Winter Fruits – the Recipe Rezept

Basisspirituose
Alpro Drinks

Dark Rum meets sweet winter fruits to give this punch a deep, caramel note. The combination of orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine ensures balanced sweetness, while a splash of lime adds freshness. Perfect for cozy evenings – served in a punch bowl or straight in the glass with ice and fresh fruit as garnish. Rum that tastes like more.

And this is what you need for the Rum Punch with Winter Fruits

90 ml dark Rum

30 ml grenadine syrup

60 ml fresh orange juice

60 ml pineapple juice (cold-pressed, no added sugar)

15 ml fresh lime juice

Fresh fruit for garnish (orange slices, pineapple pieces, cranberries, pomegranate seeds)

This is what matters

The trick is in the timing: Add the lime juice just before serving so the acidity doesn’t become too dominant. Dark Rum develops its aromas better when it’s not over-chilled – the ice in the punch bowl should therefore not be too small so that it melts more slowly. For a smoky note, you can briefly infuse the Rum before mixing: Simply wrap a piece of aluminum foil around the bottle neck, hold the smoking stick (e.g., beech wood) underneath, and capture the smoke for 10–15 seconds.

Variations

  • Feuerzangen-Punch — Replace the grenadine syrup with 20 ml cinnamon sugar syrup and serve the punch with a burning sugar cone. The Rum should be higher-proof (at least 50% Vol.) for this.
  • Tropical Winter-Punch — Add 30 ml coconut milk and a pinch of grated nutmeg. Reduce the orange juice to 30 ml and replace part of it with passionfruit juice for more acidity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the punch without alcohol?

Yes, replace the Rum with 90 ml alcohol-free Rum-flavored syrup or a strong hibiscus tea. The sweetness of the grenadine syrup remains, but the depth of the Rum is missing – add 1 tsp vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon.

Which fruits are best for garnish?

Oranges with peel (thinly sliced) and pineapple pieces add color and freshness. For more winter flair, cranberries, pomegranate seeds, or thin pear slices also work well. Avoid overly soft fruits like kiwi, as they will fall apart in the ice.

How long does the punch keep in the punch bowl?

Maximum 2–3 hours, as the fruit will otherwise turn mushy and the lime juice will lose its fresh flavor. It’s better to prepare smaller portions and mix more as needed.
