The Red Finish is the club classic for anyone who doesn’t want to go home after midnight. Vodka and cranberry juice form the fruity base, while the energy drink adds sweetness and caffeine – but not as aggressively as pure vodka-energy. The red color is deceptive: the drink seems harmless but packs more of a punch than a Vodka Cranberry. Perfect for long nights when taste takes a backseat, but the effect remains. If you’re making it at home, use fresh juice – concentrate makes it too sweet, and nobody wants a sugar crash at 3 a.m.

Here’s what you need for the Red Finish

4 cl Vodka

6 cl Cranberry juice (fresh juice, not concentrate)

8 cl Energy drink

This is what matters

The order is crucial: vodka and cranberry juice first, then the energy drink. If you pour the energy drink directly onto the ice cubes, you’ll lose the fizz, and the drink will go flat. Another trick: take the energy drink straight from the fridge – if it’s too warm, it’ll foam up and overflow. If you prefer it less sweet, replace 2 cl of energy drink with soda: this reduces the sweetness without killing the kick. And a bartender’s secret: adding a splash of lime juice (0.5 cl) to the cranberry juice brightens the drink – nobody will notice, but it lifts the fruit flavors.

Variations

  • Red Finish Sour — Mix 2 cl lemon juice into the cranberry juice before adding the energy drink. This balances the sweetness and gives the drink a tangy note – ideal for anyone who prefers it less sticky. The energy drink can be reduced to 6 cl to maintain balance.
  • Red Finish Light — Replace the energy drink with a low-calorie version and reduce it to 6 cl. Top up the missing 2 cl with soda. The drink becomes lighter but loses some of its signature energy kick – if you like that, reduce the cranberry juice to 4 cl and stretch it with soda instead.
  • Red Finish Spicy — Mix 1 slice of fresh chili or 2 dashes of Tabasco into the vodka before adding the cranberry juice. The heat enhances the fruitiness and makes the drink more interesting – but beware: not everyone can handle spice after midnight.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace the cranberry juice with another juice?

Yes, but the taste changes significantly. Pomegranate juice adds more depth, while orange juice makes it fruitier and sweeter. Cranberry juice is the classic choice because it balances the sweetness of the energy drink and brings a subtle acidity. If you’re experimenting, always use fresh juice – concentrate ruins the balance.

Why does the drink sometimes overflow?

This happens when the energy drink is too warm or poured into the glass too quickly. The carbonation escapes suddenly. Solution: store the energy drink chilled and pour it gently over a spoon. If it still foams, wait a moment before stirring.

Can I replace the vodka with another spirit?

Theoretically yes, but vodka is the best choice. Gin overpowers the fruit flavors, rum makes the drink too sweet, and tequila doesn’t suit the taste. Vodka is neutral and lets the energy drink and cranberry juice shine. If you want it stronger, you can increase the vodka to 5 cl – but then the drink quickly becomes too intense.

How much caffeine is in a Red Finish?

That depends on the energy drink, but with 8 cl it’s about 60–80 mg of caffeine – similar to a cup of coffee. If you’re sensitive to caffeine, reduce the energy drink to 4–6 cl or choose a caffeine-free version. The vodka doesn’t mellow the effect; it amplifies it.
