Naranja Caribe – The Recipe Rezept

The Naranja Caribe is a creamy, fruity cocktail combining brown rum with sweet banana and spicy vanilla. The mix of orange juice and Galliano gives it a Caribbean lightness, while the Créme de Banane adds a velvety texture. A drink that tastes like a vacation – but with a twist: The vanilla note of the Galliano elevates the banana to a new level without being overpowering.

Here’s what you need for the Naranja Caribe

4 cl brown Rum

2 cl Créme de Banane

2 cl Galliano (vanilla liqueur)

12 cl freshly squeezed orange juice

Garnish: 1 orange slice, 1 cocktail cherry

The key to success

The trick lies in timing: Galliano and Créme de Banane don’t mix well with too much ice in the shaker. Add the ingredients *after* the ice to the shaker, otherwise the drink will chill too quickly and the flavors won’t develop properly. For an extra creamy texture, you can stir in 1 cl of cream or coconut milk – but this will make the Naranja Caribe even sweeter. Important: The orange juice must be freshly squeezed, otherwise the drink will taste flat and overly sweet.

Variations

  • Naranja Picante — For a spicier version, lightly press 1 slice of fresh ginger with the ingredients in the shaker (don’t crush it, otherwise it will turn bitter). Alternatively, add 2–3 drops of Tabasco or a pinch of chili powder directly into the glass.
  • Naranja Tropical — Replace the Créme de Banane with 2 cl passionfruit purée and add 1 cl lime juice. Garnish: 1 passionfruit half and a mint leaf.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use white Rum instead?

Yes, but the drink will lose its caramel-like depth. Brown Rum brings vanilla and caramel notes from aging in wooden barrels that pair perfectly with banana. White Rum makes the Naranja Caribe fresher but less complex.

Why does my Naranja Caribe taste watery?

Either too much ice was used in the shaker, or the cocktail wasn’t shaken vigorously enough. The ingredients need to briefly combine at room temperature before being chilled. Alternatively: Pre-chill the glass with ice so the drink doesn’t dilute too quickly.

Is there a non-alcoholic version?

Yes. Replace the brown Rum with 4 cl non-alcoholic Rum (e.g., based on molasses) and the Galliano with 2 cl vanilla syrup. The Créme de Banane can be substituted with 2 cl banana syrup. The flavor will be sweeter, but the basic idea remains the same.
