The Golden Daze combines London Dry Gin with apricot liqueur and fresh lemon juice to create a fruity, slightly tart cocktail. Its golden-yellow color and smooth taste make it a relaxed drink for warm days. The gin remains present but is gently softened by the sweetness of the apricot. An uncomplicated classic that impresses effortlessly.

And here’s what you need for the Golden Daze

4 cl London Dry Gin

2 cl apricot liqueur

2 cl lemon juice

1 cl sugar syrup

What matters

The apricot liqueur should not become too dominant — some brands are extremely sweet and completely overpower the gin. That’s why I keep the amount moderate and balance it with sugar syrup, which I adjust between 0.5 and 1.5 cl depending on the liqueur. Double straining is important: fruit pulp from the lemon juice would look unpleasant in the glass and disrupt the clear, golden appearance. If you prefer it colder, you can serve the drink on ice in a tumbler — it will become smoother and gently dilute as you drink.

Variations

  • Golden Daze with peach — replace apricot liqueur with peach liqueur — slightly sweeter, less tart.
  • Golden Daze on the rocks — serve on ice cubes in a tumbler — becomes milder and gently watered down as you drink.
  • Golden Daze with orange liqueur — replace apricot liqueur with Triple Sec or Cointreau — less fruity, more citrus-forward.

Frequently asked questions

Which gin works best with the Golden Daze?

A classic London Dry Gin with a clear juniper structure works best. Overly floral or intensely aromatic gins compete with the apricot liqueur and blur the profile.

Can I skip the sugar syrup?

It depends on the apricot liqueur. Some are so sweet you can reduce the syrup to 0.5 cl or leave it out entirely. Taste after shaking and adjust with a splash of syrup if needed.

Why double strain?

Fruit pulp and ice shards would disrupt the clear, golden-yellow appearance. A fine strainer over the glass catches anything that slips through the bar strainer.

Can I use lime juice instead of lemon juice?

You can, but it will be sharper and less rounded. Lemon harmonizes better with the soft apricot note.
