Dubonnet – What is it?

Dubonnet is a French fortified wine made from red wine, brandy and a blend of herbs, spices and other aromatics. The liqueur was first developed in the late 19th century by Joseph Dubonnet in France. It is available in several varieties, including Dubonnet Rouge and Dubonnet Blanc.

Dubonnet Rouge, the red variant, has a sweet-bitter taste with notes of spices, herbs and a hint of fruit. Dubonnet Blanc, the white variant, is slightly drier and has a lighter aroma.

Dubonnet is often served neat over ice but can also be used as an ingredient in cocktails such as the Dubonnet Cocktail or the Dubonnet Highball. It is known for its complex blend of flavours and has a rich history in the world of aperitifs.
