A Cranberry Spritzer is the alcohol-free answer for those who enjoy tart and fruity drinks without sacrificing complexity. The tartness of the cranberry meets fresh lime, while soda adds lightness. No syrup overload, just a drink that still has character even after the third glass. Perfect for long evenings when you want to keep a clear head.

And here’s what you need for the Cranberry Spritzer – alcohol-free

60 ml cranberry juice (100 %, unsweetened)

30 ml fresh lime juice

Soda water to top up

Ice cubes

A few fresh cranberries (for garnish)

This is what matters

The key point is the cranberry juice: Use 100 % juice, not nectar. Most supermarket cranberry juices are diluted with apple or grape and far too sweet. Real cranberry juice is tart, almost astringent – that’s exactly what makes the spritzer interesting. If you can only get nectar, reduce the amount to 40 ml and balance it with a bit more lime. The fresh cranberries aren’t just for decoration: When they sit in the glass, some burst during stirring, releasing small bursts of aroma.

Variations

  • Cranberry-Ginger Spritzer — 20 ml ginger syrup or ginger beer instead of plain soda – adds spice and depth.
  • Cranberry-Rosemary Spritzer — Lightly press a rosemary sprig and add to the glass – herbal and aromatic, especially in winter.
  • Cranberry-Grapefruit Spritzer — Half cranberry juice, half grapefruit juice – even more bitter, even more sophisticated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen cranberries?

Yes, even better than fresh for garnish – they chill the drink further and slowly release juice as they thaw.

Which soda water works best?

Classic soda water with medium carbonation. Mineral water works too, but soda has finer bubbles and dilutes less.

How can I sweeten the spritzer if it’s too tart?

A teaspoon of agave syrup or simple syrup is enough – add it directly with the lime juice so everything blends well.

Can I prepare the drink in advance?

You can mix the cranberry and lime juice and refrigerate it. Add the soda and ice just before serving to prevent it from going flat.

Zubereitung
