Cranberry Mojito – the Recipe Rezept

Basisspirituose
Alpro Drinks

The Cranberry Mojito is a fruity variation of the Mojito, which gains a special depth from the tart and bitter cranberry juice. The combination of mint, lime, and Rum remains intact, but the cranberries give the drink a slightly autumnal note—perfect for warm days or as an accompaniment to light dishes. Easy to prepare, but with a twist that sets it apart from the classic version.

Here’s what you need for the Cranberry Mojito

50 ml white Rum

120 ml unsweetened cranberry juice

15 ml freshly squeezed lime juice

8–10 fresh mint leaves

2 teaspoons raw sugar (or 1.5 cl sugar syrup)

Soda water (to taste)

Ice cubes

Garnish: mint sprig and lime slice

What matters

The trick is in the timing: only lightly muddle the mint just before serving to preserve its aroma. Be sure to use unsweetened cranberry juice—the commercially available sweetened juice makes the drink too sweet and masks the freshness of the mint. If you use sugar syrup instead of raw sugar, reduce the quantity slightly, as the syrup is more concentrated. A small splash of soda at the end lifts the flavors without diluting the drink.

Variations

  • Ginger Cranberry Mojito — Replace the soda water with 60 ml ginger beer for a spicy-hot variation. Particularly well-suited to autumnal flavors.
  • Cranberry Basil Mojito — Swap the mint for 6–8 fresh basil leaves. The basil gives the drink a slightly peppery note that harmonizes perfectly with the tartness of the cranberries.
  • Cranberry Mint Fizz (non-alcoholic) — Replace the Rum with 50 ml non-alcoholic Rum-flavored syrup and add 10 ml lemon juice. Top up with soda water—a refreshing mocktail with full flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen cranberries instead of juice?

Yes, but you need to puree them first and strain through a sieve to remove the seeds. Use about 50 g frozen cranberries per serving and adjust the sugar quantity, as fresh cranberries are more tart.

Why is my Mojito bitter?

This usually happens when the mint is muddled too strongly or left in the glass too long. Lightly muddle the leaves until they release their fragrance and serve the drink immediately. Use fresh, crisp mint—wilted leaves release bitter compounds.

Can I use brown Rum instead of white Rum?

Theoretically yes, but brown Rum has a stronger flavor that can overpower the freshness of the mint and the tartness of the cranberries. If you use it, reduce the quantity to 40 ml and choose a mild, not too smoky Rum.
