Fire! The Blue Blazer might as well be called »smoking club«. Many clubs and bars have already met their flaming end while preparing this cocktail. That’s why our serious advice: Please don’t try this at home. Even professional bartenders face danger with the Blue Blazer.
You’ll need these ingredients for a Blue Blazer:
- 6 cl Overproof Rum, alternatively: Scotch Whisky
- 3 cl boiling water
- 1 teaspoon brown cane sugar
- Lemon or a sprig of rosemary for garnish
You’ll also need:
- Lighter
- 2 heatproof glasses
- Fire extinguisher
How to make a Blue Blazer:
- Step: In the first glass, dissolve the brown sugar in the boiling water.
- Step: Now pour the Whisky into the second glass and ignite it.
- Step: Pour a sip of the burning Whisky into the sugar solution, then pour a sip back. Repeat this back-and-forth until everything is in one glass and the Whisky is no longer burning.
- Step: The Blue Blazer is ready to serve and can be poured into glasses.
Garnish & decoration
We recommend a sprig of rosemary.
What Mr. Barflow says:
Bartenders who dare to make the Blue Blazer must ensure their glasses are heatproof and won’t get too hot. And a fire extinguisher should always be within reach.
By the way: What is Overproof Rum? We call a very strong Rum Overproof. Its alcohol content is over 57.15%.
Variations: Depending on taste, you can round off this drink with a pinch of nutmeg.
If you don’t have brown cane sugar, use sugar cubes. Dissolve these in the boiling water in the first glass.
