Angostura – what is it?
Angostura refers to both a brand of bitters and the aromatic bitters produced by this brand. The most well-known and commonly used type is “Angostura Bitters.” Originally produced in Venezuela, production later moved to Trinidad and Tobago.
Angostura Bitters are a highly concentrated blend of herbs and spices, including bitter orange peel, cloves, cinnamon and other botanicals. They are typically used in small quantities as a flavouring in drinks, especially cocktails, to add a subtle and complex note.
The Angostura brand also produces other products such as Rum and syrups, but their bitters are arguably their most famous offering.
